Yu Ping was born in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province in November 9th , 1954. Honorary President of Yunnan University’s Changxin International College of Art,. President of Dance Academy of Nanjing Art Institute.
Doctor of Arts, Professor. One of the experts enjoying special allowances from the Government of the State Council, Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions to the Nation, Outstanding Expert of the Ministry of Culture. He has served as Vice President of Beijing Dance Academy, Director of Arts Department and Director of Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China.

In 1984, he graduated from the Chinese Department of Jiangxi Normal University of Science and Technology and remained in the University for teaching.
In 1988, he graduated from the Chinese Academy of Art with a Master of Arts degree. After graduation, he taught in Beijing Dance Academy.
He was an associate professor in 1992 and a professor in 1995.
In 1996, he was awarded the Excellent Expert of the Ministry of Culture and enjoyed the Expert Allowance of the State Council.
In April 1996, he was appointed Vice President of Beijing Dance Academy (presiding over the affairs of the Academy).
In 1998, he was appraised as a Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions to the Country.
In June 2001, he was transferred to the deputy director of the Art Department of the Ministry of Culture.
In April 2004, he was appointed Director of the Art Department of the Ministry of Culture.
In March 2009, he was appointed Director of Culture Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Culture.
Since September 2015, he has been the President of Dance Academy of Nanjing Art Academy
